Mitch McConnell Appreciates His "Me" Time

Mitch McConnell, the senior senator from Kentucky, works hard. Being the leader of the Republican Party in the Senate, he has a tremendous amount of responsibility. That is why Senator McConnell believes it is so important for him to make some time just for himself every day.

"People don't realize how stressful it is being a Republican senator. Some days it's 10 hours straight working to stifle the president's plans. After that, I need a break. I'll often meet up with my crochet club at Paneras. After a split pea soup and turkey sandwich, we crochet baby booties until closing time. It's a great way to unwind."

Senator McConnell said that some of the most difficult times for him were when Donald Trump was president. "Just because we were both Republicans didn't mean that we were always on the same page. People sometimes forget that I'm an ultra-conservative Republican and Donald Trump is a lunatic Republican. While he was president, and even now, I often had to support his lunatic agenda or risk being assaulted by his base. When these times got too stressful, there was nothing better than going home, playing with my cat Snuffles, and then relaxing in a hot bubble bath with a glass of chardonnay. On really bad nights, I might even treat myself to a Lifetime movie before bed."

The senator's days are always full. "In the morning I might spend some time berating Nancy Pelosi. Then it's time to vote against some relief package. After that, I might meet with some constituents promising them to work on closing the border. Finally, the day ends with an interview on Fox discussing how to stop the president's socialist agenda. By then, I'm pooped!"

When he has a day off from his busy schedule, Senator McConnell tries to make the most of it. "Whenever I can, I'll begin my day doing some gardening. I'm a big fan of marigolds. Then I meet my friend Gladys and we get mani-pedis. Then it's off to lunch at Applebee's with the rest of the gang. Either that, or we meet up later and catch the early bird at a local diner!"

Senator McConnell doesn't know how much longer he will remain in politics, but he credits his work-life balance with helping him last as long as he has. "After spending a long day denying Americans their voting rights, there's nothing better than to settle down with a nice cup of cocoa and an episode of the Golden Girls. It really is the little things that make a big difference."
